Biography

It all starts when Billy Howerdel (a sound engineer who worked with Tool , NIN , David Bowie ...) starts to deal with Paz Lenchantin (Zwan ) instrumentals in the perspective of putting a female voice on these melodies. James Maynard Keenan ( Tool ), co-locate of Billy lays his ears on these song embryos and, seduced, proposes to ensure the vocal parts. A Perfect Circle was born. Surrounded by prestigious musicians, the band gave birth to a magnificent first album: Mer de noms (whose full name is in fact "a waterfall of names for a sea of names", title in French more than enigmatic). This album shines by its artwork more than worked (the band even allowed the fantasy to resort to a strange alphabet, the enochian: the language of angels ...) but especially by music borrowed from melody, beauty and sincerity. A Perfect Circle is more than just a parallel project, but a full-fledged training testifies to this in their second album Thirteenth Step (in the absence of Paz replaced by Jeordie White better known as Twiggy Ramirez, former bassist by Marilyn Manson) released in late 2003. In 2004 eMOTIVe came out, a true hymn to peace, in fact, it contains only covers of songs for peace (John Lennon , Joni Mitchell , Marvin Gaye , ...). Its recording involved most of the ex and current members of A Perfect Circle. John Lennon's recapture of the title Imagine is subject to intense debate: some feel that the denaturing of this utopian work (in favour of a melancholy and depressed ballad) should not be. Others see precisely in this change of nature, all the genius of APC, which by this very way expresses the disenchantment of their generation, the loss of hope in a better world, which others could still feed a few years before. In parallel with eMOTIVe, the group produced a CD/DVD set entitled AMOTION , containing clips, unreleased videos as well as B-sides and remixes. Between 2004 and 2008, A Perfect Circle is outstanding, mainly due to Keenan's involvement with Tool . Most members work on parallel projects or solo albums. No announced changes, both in studio and on stage, although the band is not officially separated. However, in December 2008, in an interview given to blabbermouth.net, and again later in a radio interview4, Keenan announced that he and Howerdel are writing new songs for a new album and may even be tours. In addition, the song The Outsider of the album Thirteen Step is found in Resident Evil: Afterlife . On 13 September 2010, the group announced its reformation via its official website. Only a small tour is scheduled with 3 dates in 5 different cities in the United States, where the band will play all of its albums at each of these performances.
