Biography

The name Acid King comes from Ricky Kasso, who committed a satanic-inspired murder in 1984 in Northport, New York. Formed in 1993 by Lori S. (Guitare / Chant), Joey Osbourne (Battery), Dale Crover (Chant) and Peter Lucas (Basse), in San Francisco, Acid King stands out from the Stoner / Doom scene by a psychedelic music due to his particular use of the distortion of the guitar / bass couple, but especially thanks to the singular voice of Lori S. After a first ep in 1994 entitled Acid King , the band now trio since Dale left the band very quickly, composed his first album, Zoroaster , in 1995, but Peter Lucas left the ship after their first national tour. Acid King found himself in a trio and recruited a new bassist named Dan Southwick for a second ep, Down With The Crown in 1997 (also published in split with Altamont) and which appeared at Man's Ruin Records. In 1999, Acid King signed his reference album Busse Woods, with Brian Hill on bass. The band toured a lot, but Brian said goodbye at the end of the year. Guy Pinhas (The Obsessed , Goatsnake ) replaces him and Acid King records in 2001, a split with The Mystick Krewe Of Clearlight and his third album in 2005, soberly titled III which makes them widely known in the Stoner / Doom scene for its riffs and smoky atmosphere. In three albums and three eps, the band has seen four different bassists in its ranks since 1993. Rafael Martinez served as bass player from 2005 to 2008, replacing Mark Lamb in 2008. After nine years of inactivity, in spring 2015, the band released its fourth studio album, Middle Of Nowhere, Center Of Everywhere via Svart Records and focused on more Psychic turns. In July 2015, they announced their first American tour in nine years and a New Zealand tour in 2016. Rafael Martinez still returns to bass in 2017 and the drummer Joey Osbourne always leaves Acid King and Bil Bowman replaces him. Acid King released Beyond Vision in 2023 at Blues Funeral Recordings and is still moving more towards Ambient / Space Rock / Drone sounds than in the past.
