Adagio
Biography
Adagio was created by French guitarist Stéphan Forté in 2000. Even before he formed a band, he had already recorded 2 demos and played first part of Ingwi Malmsteen in 1998. After being surrounded by David Readman (song), Dirk Bruinenberg (battery), Richard Andersson (keyboard) and Franck Ermanny (bass), he recorded the first album by Adagio , Sanctus Ignis , released in March 2001. The result is music that undeniably approaches the neoclassical, while adding progressive metal or power ingredients. The instruments therefore have fairly technical scores and the song and clear and powerful. A year later, Stephan Forté met Kevin Codfert, who impressed him and hired him as a new keyboardist. Sanctus Ignis, having made a small reputation in France and Japan, Underworld was born in these two countries at the end of 2003. The Ensemble Vocal de Lyon as well as the singer Hreidmarr (Anorexia Nervosa ) make several appearances on the record, participating in both a darker and grander atmosphere, mixing fast metal with choirs and piano scores. Stephan Forté justifies this orientation by saying that he was going through a difficult period.
The drummer leaves the band during the tour for personal reasons, and Eric Lebailly comes to replace him just in time to appear on the band's first live, A Band In Upperworld. David Readman also left Adagio and it was Brazilian Gus Monsanto who replaced him to finish the tour and record Domine that was released in 2004. This new effort confirms the more aggressive evolution of their music. In 2008, Archangel In Black presented the band's third singer, the Finnish Christian Palin. This album pushes the direction already started further and offers a more accessible sound, very energetic and more power-oriented, without denying the virtuosity that has always made the band's success. Touring runs through Hellfest, including Paradise Lost, Samael and most recently Kamelot.
