Aesop Rock
Biography
Born in New York, Aesop Rock, by his real name Ian Matthias Bavitz, began his career on the east cost with syncopated rhythms of Run DMC, Public Enemy and the furious riffs of Fugazi and Dead Kennedys. Subtly juggling with words on a muscular flow, Aesop Rock produced his first two albums (Music for Earthworms, 1997, and Appleseed EP, 1999), which quickly met a critical and public success in the field. A few albums and EP later, signed by Def Jux and Rhymesayers, Aesop Rock crossed the road and collaborated with El-P, Doseone, Blockhead and Rob Sonic. Active, whether in terms of production or writing, the rapper released his latest solo LP in 2016, The Impossible Kid, four years after the remarkable Skelethon. Among his most notable projects will be The Uncluded , an anti-folk duo formed with guitarist Kimya Dawson , and Hail Mary Mallon (with Rob Sonic ) whose second album, Bestiary , was released in 2014. Fun fact: a scientific study by Matt Daniels shows that Aesop Rock is the hip hop artist with the most vocabulary, with 7,392 unique words used out of 35,000.
