Biography

Alela Diane Menig was born in 1983 in the state of California where she grew up in a world bathed in music, her parents being musicians. She starts singing for the choir of her school then learns guitar in her corner and already writes her first songs. As he grew up, his interest in music didn't stop. She continues to compose, nourishing her songs with her folk influences, such as Kate Wolf or Patsy Kline. In 2003, at the age of 20, Alela Diane released her first self-produced album, Forest Parade . This first release, allows her to be invited by Joanna Newsom (a harpist and composer from the same city as her and a year her eldest) on stage. During a journey a Europe, the artist composes himself who will be his second self-production: The Pirate's Gospel. He was recorded in his father's studio and released in 2004. Later, the young American began to make a name in the United States, continued to perform on stage and compose. In 2006, the Holocene Music label noted it, the sign and spring The Pirate's Gospel , the first real album by Alela Diane that allows a wider broadcast beyond Atlantic. Names Records released the album in Britain as well as the ep Songs Whistled Through White Teeth the same year. The general public then tastes American folk graceful. In 2007 and 2008 Alela Diane toured a great deal in Europe inviting her family and friends on stage in particular her father Tom Menig to mandolin, Tom Bevitori to bass, Matt Bauer to banjo and especially her childhood friend and guitarist Folk, Mariee Sioux . 2008 also allows him to record a folk cover album under the name of Headless Heroes where, for example, Nick Cave, Jackson C. Frank or The Jesus&Mary Chain covers. In February 2009, Alela Diane made her return with a new album, To Be Still , enhanced with Irish folk sounds and hastened to support him on stage, both in the United States and in Europe. An ep in collaboration with singer Alina Hardin who accompanied her on many tour dates is also recorded and released at the end of the year. The last opus of the young woman comes out in April 2011 and is called Wild Divine.
