Chris "Stig" Miller - Rob guitar "The Baron" Miller - singing, bass Roy Mayorga - George drums - synth
Amebix was born in 1978 in Devon, England, under the leadership of Chris and Rob Miller. Initially under the surname Band With No Name, the brothers, accompanied by Billy Jug and Clive, recorded a first demo in their room. The group was painfully able to sell four copies in the school yard but a title reached the ears of Crass members. Thanks to them, "University College" appears on the first edition of the Bullshit Detector compilation. The first changes in line up occurred in 1983. Billy Jug is replaced by Martin, a young man of good family whose parents live in a Dartmoor mansion. Taking advantage of their absence, he invited the Miller and Clive brothers to come and squat the building. Playing at night, sleeping during the day, making it bounty, the group repeats its ranges but is forced and forced to leave the place when Martin's paternals return. It was at that time that the formation opted for the name Amebix . A more delicate period ensues. After the Dartmoor episode, the Miller brothers moved to Bristol, living with expeditions and attending squatters. It is in one of them that they meet Virus, drummer of Disorder, with whom are recorded the ep Who's the Enemy, Winter and No Sanctuary at Spiderleg Records. The training, which also added a synth to his line up in Norman's person, then went on tour. It was at the end of the latter that Virus left the group, replaced by Spider. In 1985, an encounter with Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys) allowed Amebix to sign a deal with Alternative Tentacles. Arise , the first album of the English, was released the same year but, due to various problems, the band was forced to leave the label. Amebix will not return to the studio path until two years later for the recording of Monolith . A tour in Yugoslavia followed him but soon after the band, Spider, George (successor of Norman) and Stig formed Zygote. After twenty years of silence, forgery in the Highlands for Rob Miller, Amebix reformed around the brothers with George and Ray Mayorga. 2008 sees the reissues of Arise at Moshpit Tragedy and the first three ep ches Alternative Tentacles.
