Biography

Antarctica formed in the winter of 2006 in Florida, between Jacksonville and St Augustine, under the leadership of two friends, Tyler Miller and Chris Jackson. Influenced by bands like Tortoise, Hella , Cap'n Jazz , Kayo Dot or Sigur Ros , Antarctic is moving towards instrumental music at the crossroads of indie, post-rock atmospheres and the inherent technicality of math rock. In April 2007, Brandon Highfill (A Slight Breeze) and Blake Armstrong (Our Name Is Legion) joined the combo. Alchemy operates immediately and Antarctica becomes a real passional project that leads to an eponymous first EP. In March 2008, Brandon Highfill left the band and was replaced by Ivan Skanes, who brought his Zazz influences. At the same time, Micah Mills, a violinist, raised Antarctic sound to another level. With these new assets, the band is about to finalize a first album.
