Biography

Anthrax is a separate band in the Thrash. Playing in Hawaiian shorts and shirts, alternating humour and serious lyrics, the band was born in New York in 1981 on the initiative of guitarists Scott Ian and Danny Liliker. After several line-up changes, the band ended up signing at the famous Megaforce label and released the album Fistful of Metal with Neil Turbin singing, Danny Liliker on bass, Danny Spitz (solist) and Scott Ian (rhythm) on guitar, and Charlie Benante on drums. Shortly after, Liliker got mixed up with Turbin and left for Nuclear Assault, he was replaced by Frank Bello. A while later Turbin gets thanked and Joey Belladonna takes his place. With this new singer they record the EP Armed And Dangerous, with a cover of God Save The Queen of Sex Pistols. Moshers finally found some stability and recorded Spreading The Disease in 1985. The following year the quintet passed in the first part of Black Sabbath and Scorpions in the United States while he accompanied Metallica to Europe with whom they had already shot and sympathised before. In 1987 released the album "Among The Living", and an EP entitled "I'm The Man", on which we find the song, a completely crazy title and a pioneer of Rap-Metal. Anthrax is very productive and comes out State of Euphoria in 1988 which hit a lot of the world. Note that this 'album contains a cover of Trust's Antisocial . A year later, Anthrax released a third EP called Penikufesin. Also in the same year, the band toured in small theatres under the name of 'Satan's Lounge Band' and Scott Ian shaved his head, a detail that was important in a medium like the Thrash. In 1990 the band's studio caught fire and was robbed during the first recording sessions of the new album. Persistence of Time bears its name well and finally succeeded in being born. After filming with bands like Iron Maiden, Slayer, Megadeth and Testament, Anthrax released an umpteenth EP, Attack Of The Killer B's, in 1991. This EP has the peculiarity of containing a duet with the band Rap Puplic Enemy, the drop of water that made the vase overflow for Joey Belladonna who is fed up with these gaps with the Metal. He was ousted from the group in 1992. The former singer of Armored Saint, John Bush, then took the place of singer. Barely a year after this new change appears Sound of a White Noise, more Heavy, less Thrash. The public did not support Joey Belladonna's departure and this is the beginning of the fall for Anthrax. In 1994, the band ended its contract with its Island Records record company and released its first live album: Live The Island Years . This live shows the Moshers' stage talent! The following year was marked by the departure of Danny and the release of Stomp 442 , a record on which Dimebag Darrel (Pantera ), Paul Crook and drummer Charlie Benante played guitar. We find the three players in 1998 for Volume 8 : The Threat Is Real . A year later, Anthrax released a compilation of novels called Return Of The Killer A's. After the attacks of September 11 Anthrax is pointed at and rumors are circulating about a name change. To joke, Scott Ian announced that the band was renamed 'Basket Full of Puppies'. Obviously Anthrax remains Anthrax, and finally finds a new solo guitarist in the person of Rob Caggiano. After a rather tormented decade, New Yorkers returned to the forefront in 2003 with We've Come For You All. But although very good the album does not know the expected success. In early 2004 and after a live CD/DVD recorded in Chicago, the band decided to record The Greater of Two Evils , a sort of Best-of from the Turbin/Belladonna period with Bush singing. But soon after bass player Frank Bello left the band and joined Helmet. He was replaced by former bassist of Armored Saint, Joey Vera. In early 2005 there was a short rumor that Anthrax would resume his training before Bush's arrival, that is Scott Ian, Frank Bello, Joey Belladonna, Charlie Benante and Danny Spitz. The rumors are soon confirmed, John Bush, Rob Caggiano and Joey Vera go into the trap and the band starts a Reunion Tour. A return from Bush and Caggiano seems unlikely today as their relations have deteriorated.
