Biography

Aphex Twin is the project of a man, Richard D. James, born in 1971 in Cornwall, South England. Legend has it that his mother saw in him at his birth the resurrection of his stillborn child a few years earlier. From there would come the ‘twins' of his nickname. Richard D. James showed a keen interest in electronic music at an early age and composed his first ambient songs from adolescence. After several maxims under the name AFX and the Selected Ambient Works (one of which will be called "classical music for the new millennium" by the New York Times), English is noticed by the label Warp (Autechre , Black Dog ) who hastened to sign it. He then composed his first real album, I Care Because you Do. Aphex Twin collaborates with contemporary composer Philip Glass for a piece of this album. In 1996 the Richard D. James Album was released, still on Warp. In 1997 the famous Come to Daddy EP , very popular thanks to its clip, was released. The clips by Chris Cunningham from Aphex Twin are all of exceptional quality. Come to Daddy will be featured by The Dillinger Escape Plan on their EP with Mike Patton Irony is a Dead Scene. Aphex Twin founded his own label, Rephlex, in 1991. It will serve as a platform for its multiple releases under other names (AFX , The Tuss , Power-Pill ...) as well as to promote new artists. After the EP Windowlicker and its artroce cover appeared in 2001 the latest album by Aphex Twin, Drukqs.
