Aqme
Biography
The story of Aqme begins with the end of that of another group: Neurosyndrom . A new singer arrives, a guitarist leaves and the band is renamed Aqme in 1999 (acmé means the apogee in Greek). Consisting of Thomas on the song, Etienne on the drums, Sofy on the bass and Ben on the guitar, the band recorded a five tracks in two days which will be republished with three additional titles: University Of Nowhere. Aqme is also active in the Nowhere collective alongside Pleymo, Enhancer, Noisy Fate and Wunjo.
The band stabilizes with Charlotte's arrival to hold the four strings. They went to Sweden to record their first album with Daniel Bergstand (Meshuggah , In Flames ). Dark Efforts came out in 2002 and really launched the career of Aqme. They sign at At(h)ome and start a big tour with the Team Nowhere effect as well as the confirmed French bands like Mass Hysteria, Lofofora and Watcha. The work resumes quite quickly and Polaroids And Pornography arrives in the bins in 2004, confirming the identity that the group has created since its beginnings, adopting a sound of its own. This period also corresponds to the announcement of their withdrawal from Team Nowhere , wanting to gain more independence and not have to explain their comrades' choices.
Aqme is the group that goes up, gradually filling the concert halls and finding itself on the poster of several famous festivals (Eurockéennes de Belfort, Dour Festival...). The band decided to continue more beautiful and to link directly with the composition of a third album. However, they change their habits by choosing to register La Fin Des Temps in Paris and this time with the help of Steve Prestage ( Black Sabbath , De Palmas ). He landed only a year and a half later and showed thicker compositions, but also more worked and experienced (very long pieces, soli appearance). Aqme wants to evolve, discover new horizons while keeping their identity and gaining maturity. They also participated in Indochina's album Alice&June in 2005, thanks to the song Today Je Pleure which they composed and performed in studio (and sometimes on stage) with Nicolas Sirkis' band. A live cd/dvd was released in 2006 in Brussels and Nantes.
2007 is the symbol of a small break for the quartet, which will be especially the occasion for them to focus on their respective side-projects: the Grindcore of Grymt for Etienne, the sweetness of Vicki Vale for Thomas and the Stoner of Die On Monday for Ben. They then went back to composition and began a return to Sweden to find Daniel Bergstand. Heresy comes out in February 2008 and stands out by a more primary violence that contrasts with the sounds of her predecessor. In November, fans learn with amazement about Ben's departure, preferring to devote themselves to Die On Monday. Aqme does not stop however and announces the release of a fifth opus (En L'Honneur De Jupiter) which reveals new musical orientations for the end of 2009, Ben being replaced by Julien Hekking ( Lazy , Grymt ). A sixth album was released three years later entitled Epithete, Dominion, Epitaph, which was Thomas' last participation in the project. Vincent Peignart-Mancini (The Butcher's Rodeo ) took his place on the tour following the release of the album and recorded with Aqme an ep named Les Sentiers De L'Aube composed of three unreleased titles and three live titles. It was at the end of 2014 that Aqme released his new opus, Devising God, always in cooperation with At(h)ome.
