Biography

Arch Enemy was originally a Swedish Death Metal band formed in 1995 in Halmstad by Michael Amott, one of the former guitarists of Carcass, surrounded by his brother Christopher (Guitare), Daniel Erlandsonn (Batterie) and Joaan Liiva (Chant). Without even going through the demo box, they released a first album in 1996 called Black Earth via Wrong Again Records, but which will remain fairly confidential. In 1998, Arch Enemy was noticed by Century Media Records, released Stigmata with the arrival of bassist Martin Bengtsson, who was soon after his release replaced Sharlee D After a marathon tour across the United States, Europe and Japan with Children Of Bodom , In Flames , Nevermore and Dark Tranquility , a third album Burning Bridges that makes more and more Swedish talk. However, 2001 marks the real turning point for Arch Enemy, with the replacement of her singer by the beautiful and unknown at the time, Angela Gossow. Betting risky, but successful, Wages Of Sin is their first album with a woman singing in an extreme record. Original in itself, it turns out to be a killing in the genre Death Metal melodic and cardboards a little everywhere. In 2003, the band returned with Anthems Of Rebellion, also a success, and affirmed the claim side, even revolutionary in the band's lyrics and visuals, then in 2005, the Swedish pursue these themes and their musical paw through Doomsday Machine already more controversial in its welcome to fans. Christopher Amott left the band at that time for personal reasons, leaving his place to Gus G. (Firewind , Ozzy Osbourne ) and Fredrik Akesson ( Opeth ) to ensure the tours that followed the release of the album. Christopher returned to the band for the recording of the next album, Rise Of The Tyrant , which was released in September 2007 on their favourite label, Century Media Records. Arch Enemy is now a big locomotive of the Metal scene and continues tours in 2007 and 2008 alongside Machine Head, Trivium, Dragonforce, Shadows Fall, Opeth, DevilDriver, 3 Inches Of Blood and Dark Tranquility among others. Perhaps in lack of inspiration, the band released in 2009 The Root Of All Evil, a compilation of twelve tracks from the band's first three albums, re-recorded for the occasion with the current line-up and essentially Angela Gossow singing. Touring with Opeth , Chimaira , Motörhead , Judas Priest , Megadeth , Slayer , Anthrax , Rob Zombie and Children Of Bodom continues. Arch Enemy then returned to the studio in late 2010 and released Khaos Legion in 2011, still applying the same recipe, but also disappointing many fans. In March 2012, Christopher Amott announced his second start of the band, this time being replaced by Nick Cordle (Arsis ). Arch Enemy was discreet in 2013, then Angela announced in 2014 with surprise for many, her departure from the group after fourteen years of service to devote herself to her family. However, she continues to look after the group as a manager. Wishing to keep a woman as a singer, Alissa White-Gluz (The Agonist) replaces her at the stand for the recording of the tenth album named War Eternal, which finally continues in the same way as the one drawn by the combo for several years. In 2017, Arch Enemy released a live: As The Stages Burn! recorded at the 2016 Wacken Open Air and is available on CD, DVD, Blu-Ray and LP.
