Asian Dub Foundation
Biography
Formed in 1993 following the release of the documentary Identical Beat (film shot in London) showing workshops learning to Asian children the basics of music technology, the group is composed, in one of its innumerable periods, of Dr. Das (bass), Pandit G. (DJ) and Master D. (rapper). Rejoined later by Chandrasonic (guitar), Asian Dub Foudation recorded several demos that allowed the band to sign at Nation Records. Their label released their first Ep Conscious in 1994, which met with success in the UK. Two new members join the collective, Bubble-E (dancer) and Sun-J (DJ), while Asian Dub Foundation released several albums, with growing success: Facts And Fictions, R.A.F.I., Rafi's Revenge, Conscious Party (Live) and Community Music.
Shortly before 2000, Master D. left the band and was replaced by MC Spex (MC), Aktarvata (DJ drum and bass) and Lord (MC), members of The Invasian. In 2002 Rocky Sungh (battery) and Cyber (Dhol/tablâ) arrived. But it will take until 2003 and Enemy Of The Enemy to see the new musicians fully participate in the band. In 2001, Asian Dub Foundation viewed the Haine (film by Mathieu Kassovitz) as the country began to suffer from emeutes. A title of the same name appears on Enemy Of The Enemy. Tank landed in 2005, with a part of the song performed by Ghetto Priest (Rebel Uprising), in addition to Lord and Spex.
May 2006 saw the departure of Dr. Das (who devoted himself to teaching and his music), leaving Pandit G the last founding member of the band, replaced by Babu Storms (ex- Swami). Mc Spex also left the formation while Punkara was rejected several times. Al Rumjen and Aktar8r came to compensate for his absence, while Master D. announced his return. Punkara , the last opus of the collective, is released at the end of September 2008.
In addition to his music, Asian Dub Foundation is also present through commitments such as the release of Satpal Ram (accused wrongly of a crime) or the creation of a school to teach children music. Asian Dub Foundation also wrote an opera by dub / punk Gaddafi: A Living Myth , presented in September 2006,
