Biography

Ataraxia was founded in Rouen in late 2000 by Jonathan Therery (song and bass) on the ruins of the black metal band Reign Of Evil. He is surrounded by Pierre Senecal (drums), Sylvain Esteve (guitar) and Clément (guitar), ex-Reign of Evil, quickly replaced by Frédéric Patte-Brasseur. The band then gives in a kind of Death Black "doomizing", but the style quickly evolves towards a quality Doom Death. The band released its first demo The Other Path in 2003, which was immediately acclaimed by critics. After many local concerts, the band formed a good reputation and joined the Doom's greats, also opening for S.U.P or joining the Doomination of Europe with Morgion, Mourning Beloveth and The Prophecy for a few dates, or sharing the Dutch Doom Day II poster with Evoken and Desire. Then the following year, the album Slow Transcending Agony was recorded by Kris Belaen (Aborted, In Quest, Pantheist ...) and released in June 2005 by Weird Truth's Japanese. The success is immediate and propels the band to the top of the French Doom scene and places it among the best formations of the moment. A new album is expected for 2007. Anhédonia will finally be released in 2008, very well received by the critics the album allows the band to continue its path. Bethlehem's Bastardes in 2009, Project X in 2011 and finally Being and Nausea in 2013, will definitely impose Ataraxia as a sure value of the Doom Death movement.
