Avantasia
Biography
Tobias Sammet has the idea of creating Avantasia in spring 1999, during the tour of the album Theater Of Salvation of his band Edguy. His concept is to set up a metal opera album concept with a large number of guests. The singer starts work at the end of the tour and collaborates with Andre Matos (Angra), Michael Kiske (Helloween), Sharon Den Adel (Within Temptation), and many others. The Metal Opera album was released in the summer of 2001, followed a year later by The Metal Opera Part II. Following these two records, Tobias Sammet closes this chapter to focus on Edguy. But in 2007, the singer announced a third opus, The Scarecrow , scheduled for 2008. Alice Cooper , Roy Khan ( Kamelot ), Bob Catley ( Magnum ) among others will be at the meeting. After its release in late 2009, Tobias Sammet unveils the arrival of two albums, The Wicked Symphony and Angel Of Babylon , both released on the same day in April 2010. With The Scarecrow, they form a tryptic often called "The Wicked Trilogy". Avantasia made its first tour (of 13 concerts) in 2011 to defend the release of The Scarecrow . After the release of the two successful albums The Wicked Trilogy, 12 new concerts are scheduled for the end of 2010. On this occasion, the band plays in Asia, Europe, and South America. After a brief hiatus, Tobias Sammet reshaped a line-up in 2012 to release The Mystery Of Time in early 2013. A tour of 30 dates is set up, including 7 leading European festival posters. The concert at the Wacken Open Air 2014 is announced as the last of the project. But at the end of 2015, Avantasia returns with a single for an album that will be released at the end of January 2016: Ghostlights .
