Biography

The members of Baroness are all from Lexington, Virginia, USA. The band is now based in Savannah, Georgia, like their close friends Circle Takes The Square, Kylesa and Black Tusk. The band recorded its first ep, First, in 2003. S Their second ep, Second, was born in 2005. Baroness signed with Relapse Records in 2007 and released a split with the grindeux of Unpersons and their first album, soberly titled Red Album. Quickly, this Red Album met with great critical and public success. With Kylesa and Torche , Baroness becomes an emblematic group of a certain form of emerging metal and since very followed. The band started to shoot a lot in the United States, with well-known bands in metal and gras rock, such as High On Fire, Coliseum or Cluch, but also with more distant bands stylistically, such as Genghis Tron, Converge, The Red Chord or Opeth, for whom they opened during the American Swedish tour in 2008. The band also acquires a certain reputation thanks to its well-known artworks and appreciated for its art deco influences, notably inspired by Alfons Mucha, entirely directed by guitarist/singer John Baizley. He also exercised his talents for many other trainings by performing artworks for cds, vynils and merch, notably for Kvelertak , Pig Destroyer , Black Tusk and for the Robotic Empire label. In 2009, they returned with a new production, the Blue Album , a bit more laid and that part of the soft and psychedelic compositions. He is accompanied by the departure of guitarist Brian Blickle, who is replaced by an old friend and the band, who had briefly made part of it during his debut, Pete Adams. Other tours follow, notably with Mastodon . John Baizley will even do some temporary shows in 2010 to replace Bill Kilheller, absent for health reasons. 2011 will be a big year for Baroness who will go on tour with no more than two heavyweights of the metal, Metallica then Deftones and considerably slows down the pace of his tours before completely stopping any stage activity for almost a year. A necessary break depending on the group, to resume serenely and more seriously the writing of new songs. A pause that bears fruit: they will give birth to a double Yellow&Green album in the spring of 2012, an ambitious production dedicated only to singing and taking a very rock and pop turn, which will derail many fans. At the same time they return to the road in the United States with Meshuggah and Decapitated and return to Europe.
