Battalion Of Saints
Biography
George Anthony – C-Conn song – Mike Monster guitar – Gearbox bass – drums
Battalion of Saints was one of the most aggressive groups on the Californian stage in the early 1980s. For five years the Batts left an indelible mark on the west coast, concerts following which the songs were picked up but above all an album, Secong Coming , still green despite his age.
Anthony and Smith partnered in 1978 with San Diego under the surname of Nutrons. After a year of hesitation and astronomical use of bassists, the choice stops on Barry Farwell. Don Diaz is recruited as a guitarist. After a dark sentimental story, Smith ejects Farwell from the band. He was replaced for a tour by James Cooper before the cards were redistributed. Ted Olsen ( Standbys) arrives at the battery and the Nutrons perform the first part of Dead Kennedys. It was then that Smith and Anthony decided to change their name to Battalion Of Saints. Fighting Boys ep quickly became a collector in 1982. The group's reputation grows and its reputation reaches the entire west coast. BOS plays with The Exploited , Broken Bones or Misfits , takes part in the compile BYO Records Someone In against police violence with Teens, Social Distortion or Bad Religion. In 1984, BOS signed a contract with Enigma Records for recording his first album, Second Coming. After using two other bassists, Travis Davidson and Dennis Frame, it's Captain Scarlett's turn, ejected from the UK Subs one year before and former, to get to the spot. Just before the tour, Ted Olsen was replaced by Joey Maya. Problems arise upon return. Smith slams the door to New York where he's going to work with Kraut for a while before he dies by overdose. Scarlet and Anthony put BOS in stand-by and change air in England.
After a decade, Anthony and Terry Bones (Discharge , Broken Bones ) decided to reform the band. During a UK Subs tour, BOS recorded two tracks with Matthew McCoy (battery), Gregor Kramer (bass), both members of the Subs. A seven is planned but this one is already sold out long before it presses. Kramer and McCoy returned to the Subs and BOS were forced to recruit Ken Ortman (low) and Gearbox, who also held the position of drummer at Total Chaos. The choice was finally about Mark Bender before returning to Gearbox. After another period of separation, BOS resumes the stage.
