Battles
Biography
Formed in 2003, Battles is only the musical union of highly experienced individuals from the New York stage of experimental music. In his ranks were drummer John Stanier (ex- Helmet , Tomahawk ), Ian Williams, former guitarist of legendary Don Caballero , and Tyondai Braxton, son of the poly jazz instrumentist Anthony Braxton, having acted for Lynx with Dave Konopka, also of the game. Battles soon emerged after its formation of promising first recordings via the Ep EP C and B EP, which will be compiled in 2006 by Warp Records on what will be sold as the first album of the band. In reality, the first real combo album, Mirrored , is only released in 2007, still at Warp Records, and benefits immediately from a well-thought-out buzz of the English label which has understood that Battles had its place in the best experimental formations on the planet. By mixing more than varied influences with overvitamin math-rock sauce, the group asserts itself as a uniqueness and therefore as a group that promises already. Tyondai Braxton left the band before the release of the second album Gloss Drop in 2011, recorded as a trio, but increased by a few known voices from independent circles ( Matias Aguayo , Gary Numan , Kazu Makino , Yamantaka Eye ). This object will be entitled to a remix called Dross Glop released the following year. A third album arrived in 2015, La Di Da Di , still faithfully distributed by Warp Records. We will have to wait until 2019, to put the ear on Juice B Crypts , fourth record and first in duo, since Dave Konopka also left. So stay the hard core, Stanier + Williams, here surrounded again by a battery of guests (Shabazz Palaces , Xenia Rubinos , Sal Principato , Tune-Yards , etc.).
