Beastie Boys
Biography
The beginning of the epic Beastie Boys dates back to 1981, when Michael Diamond ("Mike D") and Adam Yauch ("MCA") decided to form a hardcore band strongly influenced by Black Flag, along with guitarist John Berry and drummer Kate Schellenbach. Following their departure, the Beastie Boys integrated Adam Horowitz ("Ad-Rock") and recorded in the wake what was to be a parody rap called Cookie Puss . But the title became a success in the New York underground of the time, attracting the attention of a local student interested in producing records: Rick Rubin. In 1985, the band recorded She's On It which will make a real card to the point of taking our boys first part of Madonna and Run DMC. Their popularity is already well seated while the first album is still waiting. 1986 marks the release of Licensed To Ill , an album that goes back to history by being the first number 1 rap album on Billboard US. Paul's Boutique will be released in 1989 in collaboration with the Dust Brothers. The album matures, leaving the hard rock samples for more retro sounds, but fans as much as critics are confused. At the beginning of the 90's, the band founded its Grand Royal label and studio. Then Check Your Head allows them to acquire a comfortable place in the alternative rock scene in 1992. Indeed, this album is a return to their punk sources (samples of Bad Brains), but also a fusion of funk and hip-hop old school. Their status as a cult group was strengthened in 1994 with Ill Communication (more than two million records sold), and these numerous hits such as Sabotage or Sure Shot. The band then released various compilations of their punk titles from the beginning, as well as instrumental funk titles. The Beastie Boys are also new talent finders, they may sign among others Sean Lennon, At The Drive-In, or Bran Van 3000. It was in 1998 that "Hello Nasty" came out, a bold blend of hip-hop old school and more contemporary sounds, with the collaboration of Fatboy Slim and their eternal Dj and friend Mix Master Mike. The following year, the time came for the Beastie Boys to release a double album of the best songs of their career: Sounds Of Science. After six years of absence and almost twenty years of career, the band was released in 2004 To The Five Boroughs , a true tribute to their mythical and bruised city of New York City. The Mix-Up released in 2007 with the particularity of being fully instrumental then in 2011, Beastie Boys announces its eighth album: Hot Sauce Committee Part Two.
