Before The Dawn

You thought a mix of Death Melodium and Gothic was unlikely? Yet this is what this Finnish quadruplet, which began his career in 1999, proposes as a solo project by multi-instrumentalist Tuomas Saukkonen. After a first demo, entitled To Desire , well received by the critics, Tuomas continues to defend himself on stage, accompanied by a line-up session (Panu Willman, Mike Ojala, Kimmo Nurmi). Tuomas subsequently formed a stable line-up. Together they recorded the first EP, entitled Gehenna in 2001. It is at this point that the group receives several proposals for contracts and it is ultimately with Locomotive Music that they will sign. The first album, the album My Darkness , released in 2003, will be the first to be released on this label. A European tour followed with Katatonia . It was during the second album period, 4:17 am , that Tuomas reformed a new line-up, accompanied by Lars Eikind on bass, Juho Rähiä on guitar, Joel Mäkinen on keyboard, and Aatu Mukka on drums. The year 2006 gave birth to the album The Ghost, as well as to The Darkness, a recording by Dawn of Solace, a solo project by Tuomas Saukkonen accompanied by Lars Eikind, in order to publish the songs composed for The Ghost but considered too soft to appear under the name Before the Dawn. It was also in 2006 that the band had the privilege of participating in the North European tour with Insomnum and Moonspell . The next opus, Deadlight , was released in 2007, this time under the Heavy Stay Records label. Aatu Mukka leaves the band during the recording of this album, but that does not prevent this album from being very well received and ending up in the charts - second in the Top 20 in Finland - for a period of 4 months. Supported by these critics, Deadlight's successor, Soundscape of Silence, came out in 2008. Like his predecessor, he finished in the charts, this time 14th in the Top 20 in Finland. Before the Dawn has played in festivals like the Wacken Open Air, Tuska Open Air... And opened for Amorphis during his tour, with Atte Palokongas as drummer, who will then definitely join the band.
