Biography

Originally, a man, Zach Condon, an American singer, musician and composer, born in the late 1980s in New Mexico, rather early the young man was not in his first act of weaponry, before creating Beirut, he was at the origin of various projects including The Real People and 1971, but it was following a journey in the Balkans where he met among other groups (of Gypsy music, World Music...) the Boban Marković Orkestar, which his musical orientation was drawn. Beirut took shape in 2006 shortly after his return to the United States, and as early as May the first album of the band Gulag Orkestar was released, if to pin it in studio he will be helped by his friend Jeremy Barnes ( Neutral Milk Hotel), Condon has entirely written and composed the album, will follow a first concert in New York for which he will recruit musicians friends. Shortly before the second opus, and after the release of three EPs (Lon Gisland , Pompii and Elephant Gun ), Beirut became a full-fledged band, and if the strong influences in French-language music (Serge Gainsbourg , Jacques Brel and Yves Montand in the lead) of its leader will lead the direction of The Flying Club Cup very clearly, this one will be the result of a joint work, released in October 2007, it will be partly recorded at Arcade Fire's studio and will see the collaboration of Owen Pallett. As the numerous and close releases attest, Zach Condon is a man who is not wasting time, but this has a price, in April 2008 after a North American tour, Beirut had to continue in Europe, but the coming is cancelled since the leader of the group is exhausted. At the beginning of 2009, Beirut resurfaced with a double EP March of the Zapotec/Holland, the first of which was inspired by a recent trip of its leader to Oaxaca (south of Mexico) and the second which is composed of electro songs that he wrote of the time of The Real People, will result in a first appearance on American television and an interpretation of A Sunday Smile by David Letterman. In June 2011 in the middle of a US tour, Beirut announces the release of its next mischief previously recorded in August, if its predecessors were signed by Ba Da Bing and 4AD, The Rip Tide arrives at Pompei Records, which is none other than Condon's label, which to write this album more intimate than the previous ones, spent six months cloistered in a cabin in Bethel in the middle of winter.
