Berurier Noir
Biography
Francois: Song Loran: Guitar/Chant Masto: Saxo/Tambour Jean-Mi: Samples
Berurier Noir is the leading group of French punk. Founded a little by chance in the Parisian squats in 1983, the group consists first of a duo with an amazing alchemy, thanks to François (chant) and Loran (guitar) accompanied by an old rhythm box. All their productions will also see the presence of a saxophone, held by Masto, which will eventually become the real third larron. The audience responds quickly to this detonating mixture, which leads the group to pursue an adventure not really planned for the long term. In 1984 the first album, Macadam Massacre , a very dark and ultra-minimalist record, was released with the hints of Orange Mechanics and reflecting the ill-being of a completely lost youth in a society that she does not understand and rejects. From the following year, Concerto for Détraqués , an album that will bring Berurier Noir in the position of leader of the alternative movement. The duo now surrounds a whole band on stage as clowns, singers or simply pitres. All this raia will do a crazy good to François and Loran who will gradually pass from a nihilism in black and white to a "Yes Future" all in color, symbolized by Abracadabum!, the third album. The media are even interested in the band (like the majors, who will be sent back a categorical refusal) and we are now jostling to attend the concerts: this is the climax of Black Berurier. The music is always minimalist but more festive, and the sharp lyrics also incorporate some second-degree touches. The group's discourse, however, remains mainly based on social problems, poverty, racism, capitalist drifts, totalitarianism, solidarity, ..., all surrounded by libertarian principles emerging from François' pen, and carried by the guitar to Loran's incisive riffs. The slogans are numerous and the most famous is always in the collective memory: no protest against the far right is made without being scanned "The youth fuck the National Front"... Life, however, remains difficult for the entire troupe. Tensions appear and the tour conditions are very difficult. The group, faithful to its principles, does its utmost to keep an affordable price for places and drinks, accepting derisory pills for training of this importance. Turning in musical circles, undermined by the weight of a whole movement on his shoulders as well as by problems with the Bondage label, Berurier Noir decided to smear, faithful to the motto "Living free or dying...". After a farewell tour and the release of a last album, Often Fauches, Always Marteaux , the band triumphed on 9, 10 and 11 November 1989 in a full Olympia (the famous live Viva Bertaga is recorded there). It is the death of alternative rock in France, at least symbolically. Best of and other unreleased ones will see the light of day in the years that followed, until the release on their label Folklore of the World Zone of a dvd plethora titled Even Not Dead. No more is needed to revive the rumours of reformation, confirmed a few months later by their presence at the Transmusicales in Rennes at the end of 2003. The Berurier Noir machine is temporarily revived, notably by remastering their albums. A few concerts will follow, including the one given in Quebec City in front of no less than 50,000 people! Another live cd/dvd will report on these benefits. New titles are recorded and will give life to Invisible , an album released at the end of 2006 despite the new announcement of the cessation of the group's activities.
