Biography
Greg Ginn - guitar Charles Dukowski - bass Dez Cadena - guitar Henry Rollins - song Robo - drums
Weary of the Eagles' bluettes and Electric Light Orchestra, Greg Ginn founded Black Flag with Keith Morris (future Circle Jerks) around 1977 in Los Angeles. After a few difficult years, the line up stabilizes around Chuck Dukowski (bass), Robo (battery), and Dez Cadena (currently a member of the Misfits) singing. The band performed a few concerts under this formation and, on its first US tour in December 1980, met Ian MacKaye and Henry Garfield/Rollins, then a State of Alert singer. A year later, Garfield/Rollins was invited to finish the set with the band during his visit to Washington and soon after included Black Flag, Cadena devoted himself to guitar. After his English tour, Black Flag lost his drummer Robo to Bill Stevenson ( Descendants , Only Crime ) just after the release of the first album Damaged .
The second album My War was released in 1983, still with Stevenson, but without Dukowski who throws the sponge. He was replaced by Kira Roesler.
From 1984 onwards, an intense period of activity began for Black Flag. The band released two albums, the split Family Man and Split it In, and embarked on incessant tours in Europe and the States. The year 1985, although also active with the release of the albums Loose Nut and In My Head, however, sees the departure of Bill Stevenson and Kira Roesler. They were replaced respectively by Anthony Martinez and C'el for a tour of the States that turned out to be the last, Greg Ginn deciding to end Black Flag's adventure in mid-1986. A year later the Rollins Band was born.
