Biography

Boards of Canada is a duo of the brothers Marcus Eoin&Michael Sandison, of Scottish origin. It's hard to say when they've been envious of getting into music, all the more so as they've been saying louder and louder since childhood, a childhood that was also marked by a move to Canada, where they discovered their main source of inspiration, the documentaries of the National Film Board of Canada. Returning to the land of birth in adolescence, serious things begin at the end of the 80s with the release of several obscure tapes, about which the rumor is that the duo has welcomed other members or not. Still it is that the first big release of the band was born in 1995: the EP Twoism. It will be followed a year later by another EP, Hi Scores , these two laying the basis for the release of a first album, which will intervene in 1998 with Music has the Right to Children , published by Warp Records . A new EP, Peel Session , a sort of tradition among British artists, was released in 1999. The band returned the following year with a new EP, In a Beautiful Place Outside the Country , as a starter before the arrival of a second album, Geogaddi , in 2002, on which the band seemed to move away from the Electronica from the beginnings to more Ambient regions. The duo will only resurface three years later after having collaborated with different artists. A new album entitled The Campfire Headphase materializes this return, and shows a new evolution with the addition of folk music keys. We only have to wait a year this time for the band to talk about him again, with a new EP, titled Trans Canada Highway, which comes out again at Warp Records.
