Biography
Matt Warnke - singing Tim Brooks - bass Vinny Panza - drums Tom Capone - guitar
Wanting to follow the example of their elders Black Flag, Minor Threat and Agnostic Front, among others, Matt (song), Zulu (guitar), Tim (bass) and Drew Thomas (drums) founded Crippled Youth in 1985 in Katonah, New York. Under this training, the band released a 7 inches titled Join the Fight before changing its name, finding Crippled Youth too punk.
Taking advantage of New York's big hardcore boom, Bold is moving fast up to a spot alongside Straight Ahead, Underdog, Warzone, Side by Side, Gorilla Biscuit and Youth of Today. The band recorded its first Speak Out album in 1987 at the New York Electric Reels studio, in which the Breakdown the Walls sessions of Youth Of Today were performed. Despite label problems delaying its release, Bold still achieves its goals by entrusting the baby to Revelation Records.
In 1988 Bold toured California with Chain of Strenght and No For An Answer. Zulu being temporarily absent, the combo calls on Porcell ( Youth Of Today) to provide the interim guitar. A series of a few dates leading up on the East Coast allows Bold to further establish its popularity on the US hardcore scene.
The band joined the services of Tom Capone, then guitarist of Beyond, to record his 7 inch eponymous at Baby Monster Studios in New York. Bold then embarks on an American tour with Gorilla Biscuits while knowing that it will be the last, the aspirations of each member being different. Zulu unavailable, the role of second guitarist comes, of course, to Porcell. Katonah guys close the first Bold chapter with a memorable Buffalo concert.
Hence the group bursts in several directions. Matt, Tim and Zulu are taken by their studies, while Drew joins Into Another and Capone, Moondog who later became Quicksand.
During the summer of 1991, the three unreleased studio sessions of the eponymous "Looking Back", "Speak Out" and "Always Try" were finalized and added to the four original songs. The ep Looking Back was born in 1993 on Revelation.
In spring 2005, Matt, Tim and Tom decided to reform Bold. Only missing the call Zulu, and Drew, busy with his band Walking Concert. Vinny Panza takes over the torch. The return is formalized on April 17 during a concert at the CBGB.
