Broken Social Scene
Biography
Broken Social Scene is a Canadian collective (Toronto), formed in 1999 under the leadership of Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning. The duo released a first album, oriented ambient, in 2001, entitled Feel Good Lost . Troubled by the lack of energy that can emerge from an entirely instrumental concert, Drew and Canning ask some of their friends (including Emily Haines of Metric or Leslie Feist) to come and support them on stage by adding their voices to the compositions.
Fluctuating according to the aisles and arrivals of its contributors, Broken Social Scene nevertheless manages to gather all this beautiful world for a second album, You Forgot It in People (also part of Ohad Benchetrit by Do Make Say Think ), released in 2002 on Arts & Crafts. The atmosphere of the beginnings gave way to a baroque and joyful pop indie, sometimes experimental, often raised and easy to access, which quickly won a public success which prompted the band to release a CD of B-sides, Bee Hives (2004) more laid and rolling.
The following year, the band released its 3rd album, an eponymous album with bariolé sounds that was also accompanied by an EP, To Be You And Me. Since then, the band has gone on tour and takes its time to record a new record (which is done in 2009, under the leadership of John McEntire - Tortoise , for a release in 2010). Meanwhile, Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning, in turn, in 2007 and 2008 released their own albums under the label "Broken Social Scene presents...".
