Bruce Dickinson
Biography
Bruce Dickinson is best known as Iron Maiden's singer from 1981 to 1993 and since 1999. While he was still part of the band, in 1990, he released a first album under his own name, Tattooed Millionaire. Three years later, he left Maiden to devote himself to his solo career, in a register more Rock than Heavy Metal. He was surrounded by musicians from Tribe Of Gypsies (including guitarist Roy Z, co-songwriter) for the recording of Balls To Picasso (1994). For the tour, he recruited other members, with whom he would work on a new opus. Skunkworks had to be the band's name, Dickinson no longer considered himself a solo artist, but the label refused to release the record if its name did not appear on the cover. This version of the band split in 1996 for musical differences. Bruce Dickinson finds the musicians of Tribe Of Gypsies for the following two albums, as well as guitarist Adrian Smith. Accident Of Birth and The Chemical Wedding were released in 1997 and 1998, respectively, and rejoined with Heavy Metal. In 1999, Dickinson and Smith returned to Iron Maiden. The singer then abandoned his project for a while, but returned for a few concerts in 2002. In 2005, he collaborated again with Roy Z for the latest album, Tyranny Of Souls. Since then, no follow-up seems to be envisaged. An autobiography was released in 2017: What Does This Button Do?
