Biography

Burning Witch was formed in Seattle in 1995 following the split of the group Terrors Hammer. At that time, survivors Stephen O Burning Witch began to compose, and eventually returned to the studio alongside Steve Albini to record Towers... , his first EP, in 1996. But the doomsters encounter great difficulties in searching for a label, and thus focus on writing their second EP in the winter of 1997: Rift.Canyon.Dreams. The band then paused, allowing Greg Anderson to form the Goatsnake band in parallel and found his own label, the prized Southern Lord. Thus, Burning Witch can release his first album in 1998, Crippled Lucifer (Seven Psalms For Our Lord Of Light) , which also features almost all of the EPs' titles. Despite two concerts in autumn 1998, Burning Witch decided to make an indefinite break. Hibernate until convenient, or indefinitely. On a discographic level, however, this will not really be the case. The few unreleased CDs will appear on various CD splits , whether in 2000 with Goatsnake , or in 2004 with ASVA . Nevertheless, the history of Burning Witch members is far from stopping there. Eggy 59 will create Sinisstar, while Dahlquist, O-Malley and Anderson will form Sunn O)) , but also other projects and others like ASVA (for Dahlquist), Khanate, or Teeth Of Lions Rule The Divine .
