Carcass
Biography
Precursors of Grindcore and even Goregrind, Carcas has been able to stand out throughout his career by many musical turns. At the beginning of Grindcore's trendy gore band, entirely creating Goregrind, then excellent Death Metal band to end up releasing Death Mélodic's very first album (before even At The Gates), Carcass knew, while evolving, keeping a personal and quality sound.
Carcass was formed in Liverpool in 1985 by guitarist Bill Steer (Napalm Death) and drummer Ken Owen. Joined in 1987 by Jeff Walker (ex-Electro Hippies), the band released Reek Of Putrefaction the following year. The record is considered one of Grind's very first albums, as Napalm Death's Scum. But above all, Reek Of Putrefaction is Grind's first album to ring gore, moving away from his Punk / Hardcore roots... The band will then release the album Symphonies Of Sickness , which is Goregrind's first album. True baffled in the underground by its extreme violence (replace yourself in 1988) and its disgusting atmosphere, the album alone creates a new branch of Grindcore: the Goregrind. It is following this record that the first Carcass Clones will appear: bands playing in the style of Carcass to try to approach their sound... In 1991, Carcass was joined by Michael Amott (future Arch Enemy) and released one of his masterpieces: Necroticism, Descanting The Insalubrious. The album is no longer Grind, but Death Metal very well mastered at the technical level and very different from the previous two records. Carcass will then take a break before releasing Death Metal Mélodic's first album, Heartwork, in 1994. Michael Amott will leave the band, becoming too melodic for him. In 1996, it was the swan song with Swansong , the final album of Carcass , continuing in the Death Mélodic by adding a Heavy touch. Unfortunately, tired of metal in general, Bill Steer will leave the combo that will split the same year, leaving his mark in the world of extreme music, even creating an entire genre. Carcass officially reformed around Jeff Walker, Bill Steer, Michael Amott and Daniel Erlandsson (Batterie - Arch Enemy, Eucharist) in October 2007 with their participation in the Wacken Open Air 2008 and Hellfest. Despite an unstable line-up (Michael and Daniel left the band in 2012), Carcass announced that it was working on a new album. It was with the arrival of Daniel Wilding (Battery - The Order Of Apollyon , Heaven Shall Burn ), then Ben Ash (Guitare) in 2013, that Carcass finished their first album, Surgical Steel , in 17 years. He was released in September 2013 at Nuclear Blast Records.
