Catamenia
Biography
Riku Hopeakoski (guitar) and Mika Tönning (chant) formed Catamenia in 1995 in Oulu, west Finland. It was in 1996, after their second demo, "Winds", that the band signed a four-book contract with Massacre Records. The group progressed in a black melodic with a resolutely Nordic universe, concentrated mainly on wolves.
Their first album, " Halls of Frozen Nort", will be recorded in Germany, before being released in January 1998. The following year, the second album, "Morning Crimson", was recorded by Thomas Skogsberg (Katatonia , Grave , Dismember ...) and was released in early 1999.
For personal reasons, drummer Toni Tervo and guitarist Sampo Ukkola leave the adventure and are replaced respectively by Sir Luttinen and Ari Nissilä. In 2000, the third album, "Eternal Winter`s Prophecy", was recorded in Finland at Tico-Tico Studio with Ahti Kortelainen (Kalmah , Eternal Tears Of Sorrow ...).
The band will not once keep a fixed line-up between album releases, especially with regard to singers who, on several occasions, have had to confront vocal cord problems... This will not prevent Catamenia from being productive without really taking off from the rank of "outsider".
It was in 2008 that the eighth and latest album, "VIII - The Time Unchained", arrived. The band will have kept from its original line-up as guitarist/founder Riku Hopeakoski.
