Biography

Like Shora, Cave In is one of these groups of Hardcore new-school that has played a 180 degree turn in their music by abandoning the brutal and technical side of their first productions (although still guaranteeing quality compositions). And while our Swiss have turned with Malval towards a minimalist Post-Rock, Cave In has been in practice for some years now a style that could be described as a gliding Emo-Rock. The band was born in 1995, inspired at the time by groups like Converge, Unwound or Snappase. In the autumn of that same year, Jay Randall proposed the recording of a split with Gambit (of which he was at the time the singer) which will be released shortly afterwards. Two other splits shared with Early Grace and Piebald will follow, after which the group records, this time alone, a 7" marketed by Hydra Head. Cave In then re-records his old songs for what will become his first album, Beyond Hypothermia . At the same time, our four musicians compose and record Until Your Heart Stops, which was released in 1998. With this album, the band stands as one of the leaders of modern Hardcore as well as Converge, Botch or Dillinger Escape Plan. A few months later, the four tracks of Creative Eclipses , much more atmospheric and abandoning the brutal side of the first opus, amaze somewhat the fans of the first hour, who then think that the band had a short experience before returning to more traditional sounds. But Cave In takes everyone back with Jupiter coming out in June 2000: nothing more here reminds the Hardcore of the beginnings, we are now looking at an Emo-Rock influenced by Radiohead and Led Zeppelin. In 2002, Tides Of Tomorrow confirmed the path taken by the group, then Antenna marked the maturity of their Space-Rock (as members of the group like to define their style). Perfect Pitch Black, which appeared in 2005, includes mostly unreleased titles recorded during various sessions from January 2003 to April 2004, but the band has an indefinite break in 2006. Against all odds, in 2009, Cave In resumed the concerts and released an ep, Planets Of Old, the same year. But it was especially in 2011 that the combo came back with a much more Hardcore album, which sums up the different musical genres that the band has addressed since their beginnings. White Silence also appeared at Hydra Head Records. After a long eight-year hiatus, Brodsky will go up Mutoid Man with Ben Koller (Converge), where Old Man Gloom and Zozobra will return to service. Cave In gets back in the saddle from 2017 through two "jam sessions" intended to feed a future album. Unfortunately following these Caleb Scofield was brutally killed in a car accident in 2018, causing the group to meet on stage (with Nate Newton and Kyle Scofield at the bass) to raise funds for Caleb's family. In early 2019 the band announced the release of the sixth album, Final Transmission , the latest recorded with the vibrations of Scofield, obviously hosted by Hydra Head.
