Legend has it that Chokebore was Kurt Cobain's favorite band. We will never really know what it was like, always it is that Chokebore's music seems to fit perfectly with the sad and tortured state of mind of the fire leader of Nirvana. The story takes place at the beginning of the 90s in Honolulu, where our four musicians are originally called Dana Lynn. After making a quick tour of an island that offers them little prospect, the quartet who is renamed decides to cross a course by settling in California. A demo tape, a signature at Aphetamine Reptile Records and the machine is launched. At the light years of the music of their original island, this machine is tinted with sadness, loneliness and depression. The first production resulting from this in 1993 is called Motionless and lays the foundations of a tortured, heavy, dark, and enchanting atmosphere. This noted release allows them to shoot alongside the booming scenes, yet relatively distant musically speaking, so Chokebore will display during his career alongside Nirvana of course, but also with Butthole Surfers, Cat Power, Samiam, Today Is The Day, Baby Chaos, Girls Against Boys, Favez and so many others. No one is a prophet in his country, and it is especially in Europe that the combo gains its letters of nobility. It was also in France that he recorded his three albums: Anything Near Water 1995, A Taste For Bitters 1996, and Black Black 1998. For the latter, the European branch of Aphetamine Reptile Records, Boomba Records, will be responsible for the release. This period will see the arrival in the casks in 1995, after recording of anything near water by Christian Omar Madrigal Izzo to replace Johnee Kop, he himself will replace in 1997 by Mike Featherson before returning definitively in 1999. 2002 marks a turning point and a return to California's sources, since the album It It was only at the end of 2009 that the band announced its return with a series of concerts the following year, and the release of a self-produced compilation of rare titles. Now we're talking about a future record.
