Circa Survive
Biography
The story of Circa Survive began in early 2004 when Anthony Green , a singer at the time of the Californian emocore band Saosin (he sings on the band's first EP, Translating the Name ), returned a few days to his hometown of Philadelphia. He found his friend Colin Frangicetto (guitarist of This Day Forward), and as he was about to leave, he decided at the last moment to leave Saosin and form a new group with Colin. They recruited Brendan Ekstrom (college of Colin in This Day Forward) as second guitarist, Nick Beard (Taken) on bass, and Steve Clifford on drums.
Once the band signed by Equal Vision Records, the EP The Inuit Sessions appeared in early 2005, followed by the band's first album, Juturna , produced by Brian McTernan (Thrice , Cave In , Moneen ...). Despite its background emocore, the band offers here something that has little connection to their past experiences, a rock hovering hard to categorize that we can get closer to dredg , with whom they have shot. The guitars are usually drowned in the delay, the rhythms are complex and Anthony's child's voice over this soundscape. We note the influence of the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind by Michel Gondry and the book La Maison des feuilles by Mark Z. Danielewski .
Two years later, Circa Survive returned with On Letting Go, still with Brian McTernan at the helm. The album is more successful than the first and allows the band to be noticed. Touring continues until the following year, and a period of calm that allows Anthony Green to release his solo album Avalon during the summer of 2008. The band is working on its third album in 2009, which they record with David Bottrill ( Tool , Muse , Silverchair ...) for a release scheduled for Atlantic in 2010.
