Colonel Claypool S Bucket Of Bernie Brains
Biography
Colonel Claypools Bucket Of Bernie Brains , is an experimental group with a rather intriguing name. By decorticating it, one can have fun guessing the four names of the four musicians that compose it... The easiest to find is probably Claypool, for the Claypool of Primus. Then Bucket, for the brilliant guitarist Buckethead. Harder, Bernie, for keyboardist Bernie Worell, founding member of Bernie Worrell And The Woo Warriors and Parliament-Funkadelic). Finally Brain, for drummer Bryan "Brain" Mantia ( Primus , Guns N' Roses , Praxis among others). These four characters met in 2002 at the Bonnaroo Festival, where Praxis (composed of Buckethead, Brain, Bernie and Bill Laswell) was on the poster. Only that night, Laswell cannot participate in the Praxis concert. Claypool, who is also on the festival poster with its side-project Colonel Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, then offers the three musicians a free-style on stage session. It was then that Colonel Claypools Bucket Of Bernie Brains was born. The band decided to play only by improvisation at all their concerts. In 2004, Colonel Claypools Bucket Of Bernie Brains recorded their first and only album to date, The Big Eyeball In The Sky, released by Prawn Song Records. A name and an artwork also appealing. The cover seems to want to pay tribute to the mysterious The Residents, to see the eyeball in the middle of the picture. In addition, Claypool's voice sometimes strangely reminds us of that of the front guard group. The album is very experimental, sometimes quite dark and disturbing. He followed an American tour. A live recorded at different concerts was uploaded to their official website. In 2005, Prawn Song Records marketed 5 Gallons Of Diesel, a retrospective dvd of Les Claypool's different side projects, including four live titles by Colonel Claypools Bucket Of Bernie Brains. Since then, Colonel Claypools Bucket Of Bernie Brains has given no sign of life. It must be admitted that all four musicians have many parallel projects and a new collaboration seems unlikely.
