Biography

The Swedish Cult Of Luna have been flooding us with their cathartic and emotional atmospheres since 1998. The group was born from the separation of Eclipse , hence the choice of Cult Of Luna as the name for the new formation, in order to keep a link with the past. Cult Of Luna is a major group, whose route certainly leads to areas that Neurosis , Isis or Breach had already followed. After an eponymous album, then The Beyond , both forged in a rich mould with metal curves and post-hardcore still very hazy, Cult Of Luna delivers Salvation to us in 2004 at Earach Records. The lines are more atmospheric, sometimes close to the Post-Rock, but always as inspired. It takes only six weeks to complete Somewhere Along The Highway when they return from tour in 2006. Always eager to evolve from one album to the next, Cult Of Luna does not miss the tick with this record that comes out again at Earache Records. Two years later, the group continued its work with Eternal Kingdom. In early 2010, the band released Eviga Riket in an audio-book format (an English version and a Swedish version), this musical book tells the story of Mr. Holger Nilson strange character that had been evoked throughout Eternal Kingdom. In 2012, singer Klas Rydberg announced his departure. Since then, Johannes Persson has been the frontman. A year later, Vertikal , a conceptualized album about the film by Fritz Lang, Metropolis (1927) and its straight forms. A few months later followed the EP Vertikal II which included a remix by Justin K. Broadrick (Godflesh ). 2016 is a very prolific year for the band that successively releases Råångest, an EP split with The Old Wind and especially Mariner, in collaboration with Julie Christmas. Following the cold, mechanical and urban universe of the Vertikal diptych, this new LP focuses on space exploration. Three years later A Dawn to Fear is released, which marks the return to a more organic sound that is reminiscent of some of the first albums of the band. Widely praised by the press, this eighth album was followed in 2021 by the EP The Raging River, the first disc released by the Swedish on their own label, Red Creek Recordings.
