Biography

Cunninlynguists is an American Hip Hop band formed in 2000, originally from Lexington, Kentucky, and Atlanta, Georgia, currently composed of Deacon The Villain and Natti both singers, and Kno who takes care of the entire composition. The debuts are in the form of a Duo around Kno and Deacon who release their first album, Will Rap For Food , (whose name refers to a passage from the Fuck Wit Dre Day video by Dr Dre ) in October 2001 on the label Urban Aces Entertainment. The production is carried out partly by the duo but also by Celph Titled (members of the Supergroup Army Of The Pharaohs). This first opus strongly marks the identity of the group, particularly in terms of the themes discussed, which distinguishes it strongly from the Gangsta Rap (style they satirize on the song Thugged Out Since Club Scouts) and inexorably brings it closer to the Abstract Hip-Hop. Souther Underground , Cunninlynguists' second album was released in April 2003 at Freshchest Records, shortly after the arrival of a new vocalist in the band in the person of Mr SOS . Kno production accompanied by RJD2 and Domingo from the QN5 label, with several artists appearing on the album (including the founder Tonedeff). The single Seasons also sees rapper Masta Ace collaborating with the band. Between 2004 and 2005, a change of line-up occurred with the departure of Mr SOS and the arrival of Natti. The band's third album: A Piece Of Strange released in January 2006 at QN5 (in the same period Deacon and Kno decided to associate and create their own label: A Piece Of Strange Music), it is entirely produced by Kno (which will be the case on all subsequent albums). As usual, there are features such as Cee-Lo Green, Immortal Technique and now the very same tonedeff. The artwork was directed by Becky Cloonan, an American comic artist who also worked with Leftöver Crack. The band will make many debuts during the album's promotion tour, including Kanye West , Pharrel Wiliams and The Strokes, which will enable it to gain greater fame. As soon as the following year Cunninlynguists attacked a fourth opus which was born in November 2007 and which benefited from the collaboration between A Piece Of Strange Music and Bad Taste Records (Swedish label with Danko Jones and Satanic Surfers). Among the appearances on Dirty Acres are Devin The Dude, Phonte by Little Brother and Witchdoctor by Dungeon Family. After a longer period than usual (due in particular to Kno's solo career and the release of his first album, Death Is Silent , Oneirology , their fifth album was released in March 2011. The artwork was created by the Dutch artist Lois Van Baarle. On Oneirology we find collaborations with Big KRIT, Freddie Gibbs and again Tonedeff. Along with his five albums Cunninlynguists worked on several mixtapes including Sloppy Seconds in two volumes released in 2003 and 2005, as well as Strange Journey in three volumes in 2009 and 2014.
