Biography

Dark Tranquillity was established in 1989 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The band is formed by Anders Friden in singing (In Flames), Niklas Sundin and Mikael Stanne in guitars, Martin Heniksson in bass and Anders Jivarp behind the drums. At the end of 1991, the band released its first two demos: Trail Of Life Decayed and A Moonclad Reflection. From 1993, the band's career finally began with Skydancer, the musicians being only 20 years old. This album allows a bursting entry on the front of the stage, but it is also the last one with Anders Friden who will join In Flames some time later. In 1995, Mikael Stane abandoned his guitar to replace Anders for singing, and Fredik Johansson took up the position of guitarist. Of Chaos And Eternal Light will receive a mixed welcome compared to its predecessor, but in no way does the group's motivation. The same year, the band released The Gallery and finally returned to its audience. Then in 1997, Dark Tranquillity will make a remarkable return with The Mind's I. Two years later, the album Projector saw the arrival of Martin Brandstorm (claviers). This album changes a lot from the first, with the band dropping a bit the death side of its music, which is not admitted by some of its most ferocious audience. This period will lead, by impact, to a deep line-up change before the exits of Haven in 2000 and Damage Done in 2002. The band then undertook to take stock of its career through DVD ( Live Damage) and a double album (Exposures In Retrospect And Denial ). In 2005, Dark Tranquillity continues on the momentum launched by Damage Done with its latest album, Character . As early as 2002 the band decided to self-produce, but chose co-production with Tue Madsen for their album Fiction, which was released in April 2007. August 2008, Michael Nicklasson announces on the official website that he leaves the band for personal reasons, his replacement is announced shortly afterwards, it is Daniel Antonsson, former member of Soilwork. We Are the Void released in early 2010 this new opus includes eleven compositions, sometimes in line with those appearing on Fiction, some songs are sung by Stanne with a clear voice. Summer 2010 is synonymous with a tour in Europe for Dark Tranquillity , where the band will be featured at numerous metal festivals in Germany, Sweden, Slovenia, Romania, or Ukraine. April 2012, Dark Tranquillity signed again with Century Media Records, in October 2012, the band began writing its new album. On January 10, 2013, the album's title was announced as Construct , idem for the release date of May 27, 2013 in Europe, and May 28, 2013 in North America. The album is mixed by Jens Bogren at the Fascination Street studios in Örebro, Sweden. In February 2013, Antonsson left Dark Tranquility on good terms, explaining that he wanted to focus on sound production and engineering. Construct comes out a little later in the year.
