Biography

Hard to make a short biography of David Bowie. So let's go to the essential, multi-faceted character, man and artist are inseparable, its impact on Rock music in the very broad sense is simply immense. David Bowie , by his real name David Robert Jones (born 8 January 1947 in London, Brixton) is a British singer, composer, record producer and actor. Over more than four decades of a career marked by frequent changes in style, a permanent reinvention of his character and musical approaches, he has established himself as one of the most original, important and innovative musical artists of Pop and Rock music, to the point that many artists have claimed his influence. He sold over 140 million albums worldwide. After hesitant debuts between Folk and Variety, in the second half of the 1960s, and a detour by the mime, he made himself known to the public in July 1969 when his title Space Oddity entered the top five best sales in the United Kingdom. But it was three years later, in 1972, that Bowie really became a star through her decadent alter ego, Ziggy Stardust. He won with a sophisticated and apocalyptic Glam Rock and flamboyant shows. At that time, he also produced and collaborated in the solo careers of Lou Reed and Iggy Pop. For the rest of the decade, he was interested in black music (Soul, Funk and Disco) and emerging electronic music, and created new mixes with the complicity of producer and musician Brian Eno. In the 1980s, he became a mainstream star, filling the stadiums with an effective Pop, but ended the decade with a complete turnaround, partnering with Garage Gock, Tin Machine. In the 1990s, he returned to a more experimental style incorporating the influences of contemporary music such as Techno and Drum and Bass. Absent from the music scene since 2004, David Bowie has not toured since the Reality Tour of 2003-04, and his last performance on stage dates back to 2006. His latest studio album, The Next Day , was released in France on March 11, 2013. Fall 2015 great surprise, Bowie announces the release of a new production for January 2016, Blackstar, which appears on January 8 on the day of the British 69th anniversary. Very oriented Jazz, the 6 tracks are unanimous right away, especially Lazarus, which is staged through a short film-like clip. Just three days after his last work was released worldwide, on the night of January 10-11, David Bowie died of cancer he had been fighting for 18 months. The dandy left behind a colossal legacy. In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine placed him 39th in his Top 100 "Best Artists of All Time", and 23rd in his "Best Singer of All Time" list. At the cinema, he played in a number of films of various genres: historical drama, science fiction, gothic thriller, children's film. His son Duncan Jones is a film director. A fan of contemporary art, Bowie collects works, among others, by Peter Howson and Derek Boshier.
