Death Angel
Biography
Death Angel is one of many groups formed in the Bay Area Thrash of San Francisco alongside Testament , Metallica , Slayer and many others. Death Angel's story began in 1982 with his training based on Rob Cavestany (Soloist Guitare), Pepa brothers (Gus on guitar and Dennis on bass and singing), and Andy Galeon (Batterie). Two years later the quartet was joined by singer Mark Osegueda.
The band composed and toured a lot before recording its first demo, Kill as One , in 1986 under the leadership of Kirk Hammett ( Metallica ). At the time the best way to discover the young bands was to exchange cassettes, and this method benefited Death Angel especially since the band was spotted by the label Enigma , which will release their first two albums: The Ultra-Violence in 1987, and Frolic Through the Park the following year.
In 1990 Death Angel released Act III at Geffen and established itself as a reference of the Thrash scene through what is now considered the reference of their discography. The same year Enigma stripped a live band that was released as Fall From Grace . Also that year Death Angel opened the Clash of the Titans tour of Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth. During this tour the band's bus turned around, seriously injuring Andy Galeon. The latter took a year to recover completely, but upon his return Mark Osegueda had already left the band.
Once Galeon was restored, Death Angel took the name of The Organization, with Cavestany singing. The Organization was more Heavy Metal than Thrash, and released an eponymous album in 1993 and Savior the Flow in 1995. Two failures. The group split up in 1995 after the departure of Denis Pepa.
Three years later, in 1998, Cavestany, Galeon and Osegueda met together, and with bassist Michael Isiah, formed the band of Heavy Swarm who produced an album in 2002, Beyond the End.
Death Angel members have always remained more or less close, so it is not surprising to see their reformation in 2001, at the Thrash of the Titans, the charity concert organized for Chuck Billy of Testament. Gus Pepa, however, did not want to join the group and Ted Aguilar, a long-time friend, took his place in the reformation. A few years later the band returned to the front with The Art of Dying.
