Deep Purple
Biography
Deep Purple is a mythical band, at the heart of the musical revolution that began in the late 1960s in England. It was after Roundabout's failed attempt that the band formed in 1968 on the initiative of Ritchie Blackmore (Guitare) and Jon Lord (Clavier). With their bass player Nick Simper from Roundabout , they recruit two former members of The Maze , Ian Paice (Battery) and Ros Evans (Chant). At the end of the year the band recorded its first album, The Shades of Deep Purple, followed shortly afterwards in 1969 by The Book of Taliesyn and Deep Purple. Like Led Zeppelin the quintet is psychedelic and is unleashed live; and like the formation of Page, they are very popular in the United States but very little in their country of origin. Also in 1969, Evans and Simper entered into an artistic conflict with Blackmore, who defended more heavy and modern music than his two companions. They were replaced by Ian Gillan (Chant) and Roger Glover (Basse). Soon after Jon Lord composed an unusual project, Concerto for Group and Orchestra , combining Deep Purple's music with a classical training. In 1970 the new band played in a more Heavy style and released the In Rock monument. Deep Purple finally starts in Europe. Barely a year later, in 1971, the band released Fireball , then the anthology album Machine Head in 1972, an essential record in the Rock world. The Highway Star , Space Truckin' , Pictures of Home , and especially Smoke on the Water are known by everyone. Which guitarist never played Smoke on the Water riff? Deep Purple recorded in the same year a titanic live full of improvisations demonstrating the off-standard qualities of the musicians, Made In Japan. The following year saw the fourth album of the second band, Who Do We Think We Are? But while everything seemed to go for the best Gillan and Glover leave the band, tired of Blackmore's touring and bad character (very famous for that anyway!). Gillan founded Ian Gillan Band, and Glover took care of various solo projects. They were replaced by David Coverdale (Chant) and Glenn Hughes (Basse). In 1974 the band changed musical optics again with Burn , an album that included bluest and funky sounds. Blackmore escaped from prison shortly after the California Jam festival in which he destroyed the equipment and set fire to the amps that eventually exploded! After this incident Deep Purple came out Stormminger and Blackmore decided to leave the group and found Rainbow following the group's changes of orientation. Quickly replaced by young Tommy Bolin, this third band was released Come Taste The Band in 1975. Fans were disturbed by this new arrival and success was not at the meeting. Bolin's and Hughes's drug problems were the result of a weakened group in recent years, Lord and Paice announced in 1976 the dissolution of Deep Purple. While Bolin died of an overdose shortly after this separation, Coverdale formed Withesnake and was joined by Lord and Paice a while later. While Deep Purple seemed dead and buried, the second line-up (Gillan, Glover, Blackmore, Lord and Paice) decided to reform in 1984 and came out Perfect Stranger. Deep Purple regains its success in the past and returns to conquer the world with a huge tour. In 1987 The House of Blue Night was released. But in 1989 the old tensions rose and Gillan left the band again to reform Ian Gillan Band. Joe Lynn Turner succeeded him to record in 1990 the album Slaves and Masters. But, again, Gillan returned in 1993 for The Battle Rages On.. (while Turner had recorded the demos!) and the 25th Anniversary Tour. The deal with Blackmore is still not good and this time Blackmore left the band on tour! The 'Guitar Hero' Joe Satriani replaced him with time to complete the tour. Satriani cannot replace Blackmore indefinitely, it was Steve Morse (Kansas ) who succeeded him. With Morse Deep Purple signed Purpendicular in 1996. Two years later Abandon was released, and in 1999 a new collaboration with a classical orchestra was made. Tired and injured in the knee, Jon Lord shot his reverence in 2001 and was replaced by Don Airey (Black Sabbath , Withesnake , Rainbow ...) with whom they recorded Bananas in 2003. Today, 60 years old, Deep Purple members have just released Rapture of the Deep and continue to travel the world by spreading their timeless Rock.
