Biography
Sluts formed in 2004 in Boston, around producer Jay Maas, known for his work with notably Have Heart, Verse, Shipwreck A.D., Carpathian or Cruel Hand and also playing in November 5, 1955. After many changes of line-up, the band stabilized in 2008 around Derek Archambault (Chant), Maxe Barror (Basse), Gus Pesce (Guitare), Jason Maas (Guitare / Chant) and Andy Reitz (Batterie) and took the name of Defeater. Their first album, Travels , was released in September 2008 via Topshelf Records. Max was replaced by Mike Poulin at the bass, then the band then toured with End Of A Year and signed at Bridge Nine Records in late 2008. The label, in collaboration with Topshelf Records, reissued the album in February 2009, allowing a wider distribution. Travels' success is huge and propels Defeater on the fronts of the Hardcore scene. The band then performs numerous concerts, including with Have Heart, Polar Bear Club, Cruel Hand or Hostage Calm. A European tour with Comeback Kid takes place during the summer. Defeater entered the Gateway Recording Studio in late summer 2009 and recorded one ep, six titles, under the direction of Jay Maas. Lost Ground was released in November 2009. The band returned to Europe in April/May 2010 with Dead Swans and More Than Life and returned to the Gateway Recording Studio in September to record its second album, Empty Days&Sleepless Nights, released in March 2011 via Bridge Nine Records. Jake Woodruff is the guitarist while Gus Pesce is on the bass. drummer Joe Longobardi also joined Andy Reitz's replacement and Mike Poulin resumed bass. Defeater made a new European tour in February/March 2011 with Carpathian and then flew to Australia and New Zealand where he played with Miles Away. Letters Home , the band's third album, was released in July 2013, still at Bridge Nine Records. 2015 marks both the departure of Jason Maas, making Derek Archambault the last founding member still present, the signature at Epitaph and finally the release of the fourth opus: Abandoned.
