Delain

It was in 2001 that Martijn Westerholt, the founder of Within Temptation with his brother Robert, left the latter to found in 2002 were own metal-symphonic band: Delain . A first line-up was formed with Anne Invernizzi as singer, Roy Van Enkhuyzen and Frank Van Der Meijden on guitars, Martijn Willemsen on bass and Tim Kuper on drums to release a first ep, Amenity. After a few years of beating, Delain barely talking about them, Martijn completely re-launched the line-up in 2005 as the only master on board. He then surrounded Charlotte Wessels with singing, Ronald Landa and Ray Van Slot with guitars and Rob Van Der Loo and Sander Zoer with bass player and drummer respectively, and then signed Roadrunner Records to release a first album in 2006: Lucidity . Several guests make their appearance there as Sharon Del Adel ( Within Temptation ) Marco Hietala ( Nightwish , Tarot ) or Liv Kristine ( Leaves' Eyes ). Ray Van Slot retired a year later and Ronald Landa followed him in 2009 just after April Rain , the second album. Delain then found himself without a guitarist and recruited Ewout Pieters to continue his tours. Running 2010, Rob Van Der Loo leaves the band replaced by Otto Schimmelpenninck Van Der Oije. For two years, Delain multiplies festivals such as the Wacken Open Air, Hellfest and Sonosphere. In 2011, Timo Somers was recruited as an official guitarist to record a third album. We Are The Others was born in 2012, still at Roadrunner Records, inspired by the hate crime committed against young British Sophie Lancaster, who died after being beaten by a group of young people because of her gothic look. Two years later, The Human Contradiction is released this time at Napalm Records, but the band splits soon after from the Sander to the battery, replaced by Ruben Israel. A second guitarist was also recruited in 2015, Merel Bechtold (Mayan , Karmaflow ) and it was with these two new musicians that Delain released the ep Lunar Prelude in 2016.
