Despond

Despond was born in 1995 in Paris on the ashes of death metal Perished combo. The band, founded by singer Richard Loudin and composed by Yann Tomaïer on guitar, JB Corgniard on drums and Luisa Trierscheidt on bass, abandoned the death to move towards the doom. They released their first demo the following year, a cassette entitled As My Soul Reaches Infinity, and on this occasion welcomed a second guitarist, Didier Maurice, and then a keyboardist in the person of Nicolas Favard. A few months later, they gave a concert in Paris with Katatonia , Impaled Nazarene and In the Woods , and recorded the live demo Beheaded and Sanctified which will be released in 1997. But Trierscheidt and Corgniard left the band, replaced respectively by Yannick Karsenty and JuanJo Esquivel. The group then went on tour, but unfortunately all the members left the ship, leaving Loudin, founder of the project, the only master on board. It follows an empty period, consisting of never released or fragmentary recordings, such as Moonlight Suicide Ghost EP or Wide Open Arms compilation. Then at the end of 2002 the band reformed with the return of Esquivel and the arrival of Viriyah Karet to the keyboards, as well as the reinforcements of Jonathan Thery to the bass and Frederic Patte-Brasseur to the guitar of the French doom group Ataraxia . With this line up, the band goes on tour, including on a few dates the Doomination of Europe Tour of Morgion and Mourning Beloveth as well as the Funeral Procession Tour of Pantheist, Until Death Overtakes Me and Skepticism in 2003. Then finally, after many reissues of As My Soul Reaches Infinity , their first real album : Supreme Funeral Oration , at the French label Haceldama Productions, directed by Loudin. But there again there is a lack of stability, since all the members leave the group, which becomes again Richard's solo project, which chooses to put it in stand by for the benefit of its many side projects ( Nydvind , Monolithe and Nunkthul ). After a white year, 2005 marks the 10th anniversary of Despond , and it whispers that the band will soon come back with a new album...
