Destruction
Biography
Destruction is one of the great names of the German Thrash alongside Kreator and Sodom (to which Tankard is sometimes associated, forming the "Big Teutonic 4"). Formed in 1982, it is composed of singer/bassist Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer, drummer Tommy Sandmann, and guitarist and only permanent member Mike Sifringer. After the Bestial Invasion Of Hell demo and the EP Sentence Of Death, the first album, Infernal Overkill, was released in 1985. The band continued on Eternal Devastation in 1986 before joining a second guitarist. The following year released a new EP, Mad Butcher, and the third album Release From Agony. In 1989, Schmier left the adventure, replaced by André Grieder ( Poltergeist ) for the recording of Cracked Brain (1990). Then begins the era also known as " Neo-Destruction". In 1993, the band became quintet, with Thomas Rosenmerkel singing. This line-up recorded two EPs and the album The Last Successful Human Canonball in 1998, generally considered particularly bad. Complete overhaul in 1999 with the return of Schmier. Destructed again in trio; All Hell Breaks Loose (2000) and The Antichrist (2001) mark a real return from the band, after a few years that we sometimes prefer to forget. Despite the drummer changes, albums continue to be released almost regularly and are generally fairly well received. Two compilations of re-recorded old titles are also being produced as Thrash Anthems , the first volume in 2007 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Destruction , the second in 2017.
