Biography

Devin Townsend became known in 1993 when guitar hero Steve Vai chose him as a singer on the album Sex And Religion as well as for the subsequent world tour. The 19-year-old, originally from Vancouver, is a great opportunity for a young musician at the time setting up the labels with the demo of his band Noisescapes. In 1995, he started working solo on the Strapping Young Lad project. He received the reinforcement of drummer Adrian White on the record Heavy As A Really Heavy Thing as well as on the album Pop Punk parodic Cooked On Phonics recorded as Punky Brüster . In 1997, the Biomech album was released under the banner of Ocean Machine. After that, the album was renamed Ocean Machine and credited as Devin Townsend. Over the years Devin released three other albums under his own name, in parallel with those of Strapping Young Lad. This is Infinity , Physicist and Terria , recorded systematically with different musicians, as well as the sound of these albums. Prolific, he added several albums under the name Devin Townsend Band , a group designed as a parallel project to Strapping Young Lad , with Accelerated Evolution (2003) and Synchestra (2006), and another two others from Electro, Devlab (2004) and The Hummer (2006).
A hyper-creative musician, perfectionist and manic (it is known to the public that he suffers from bipolar disorders), Devin Townsend has for years signalled his ability to experiment and create a dense and rich sound, stacking the instrumental layers to create ever-renewed atmospheres. After a break due to the birth of his son Reyner, and despite his statements based on his rabble the bowl of the music industry and his need to take a step back, he recently returned with Ziltoid The Omniscient , a new solo album with a curved concept. On the other hand, it appears that the adventures of Strapping Young Lad and Devin Townsend Band are indeed over with respect to the Canadian.
