Diabolical Masquerade
Biography
Diabolical Masquerade is a Swedish one man band, which means that Anders "Blakkheim" Nystrom (Katatonia , Bloodbath , ex-Bewitched ) plays all the instruments there, composes everything in his corner (not without the collaboration of overworked Dan Swanö, who acts as drummer on Nightwork in 1999 in particular) and sings over the market. What the guitarist wanted was to express himself in a more extreme register, close to the avant-garde black metal, but with a solid dose of Heavy Thrash. Started with the formidable Ravendusk in my Heart in 1996, Diabolical Masquerade finished his career in 2004, when Blakkheim felt insufficiently inspired to compose a fifth album. His desire to experiment probably culminates with Death's Design, whose structure in 20 movements and 61 tracks offers a kind of heavy-black opera of high quality, ideal BO of a fictional horror film. This album released in 2001 is full of inventiveness, both progressive, ambient, classic and of course extreme. It is proof of the talent of an adventurous musician who has also been able to play with humour the clichés of the black metal with three albums all loud voices outside, and notably through the lyrics of an amazing The Phantom Lodge, released in 1997. Peaceville Records plans to re-release the last two albums released at AvantGarde Music. It is also worth noting that the first works of Diabolical Masquerade were published by a French label, Adipocère Records, which at the time although having a small means had the excellent idea to trust Blakkheim. We're thinking Adipocère had a fine nose when we saw the Swede's career.
