Biography

Dianne van Giersbergen received his first singing lesson at the age of 4. This simple gift opened his voice to the world of music. In 2005, she began her classical music studies at the Artez Academy of Music where she became familiar with the classical repertoire. In parallel with her studies, she also undertook to master more pop-rock or even metal techniques in order to link all her influences in her vocal style. In addition, when writing her memory, she chooses to work on the vocal techniques and compositions requested to mix the classical and metal style in conjunction with the emergence of freer performances and mixes of style. To validate her support, she also had to provide a business plan and create a representation. Having completed her studies successfully, she founded Ex-Libris in 2014 with Joost van de Pas (battery), Paul van den Broek (guitar) and Koen Stam (claviers). The mixture of progressive and symphonic metal was noticed and in 2008, after the release of their first album, Ex-Libris made the first parts of bands like Epica, Delain, Stream of Passion or ReVamp. After a few line-up changes, the band began the creation of its second album in 2013, Medea , based on the tragedy of Medea. At the same time, Dianne van Giersbergen became the new singer of Xandria until 2017. She will record three albums with the band: Fire and Ashes, Sacrificium and Theatre of Dimensions. Following tensions within the group but also health problems, Dianne announced her departure from Xandria in September 2017. Nevertheless, she continues to be active with Ex-Libris and in 2018, the band released the first chapter of a three-part album: Ann . These three parts each speak of historical women: Anne Boleyn, Anastasia Romanova and Anne Frank. The last chapter was published in November 2019 together with a complete edition of the three parts. In September 2022, 5 years for days after the announcement of her departure from Xandria, Dianne van Giersbergen reveals that she began a solo career, under the name of Dianne, as well as a first album, Soulward Bound. However, this album is not expected for 5 years. Indeed, the singer chose to release two singles a year until 2027, singles that will reflect her renewal after Xandria . In addition to his musical career, Dianne van Giersbergen has created his own jewellery brand: Precious Metal Jewelry. Using guitar and bass strings as well as used cymbals, used by live metal bands, she makes very original jewellery. Next to this, with her long-time friend Marcela Bovio (MayaN), she starts a series of podcasts, Are We Better Friends Yet? with the aim of discussing topics of everyday life such as food, money or the challenges we face in our lives.
