Biography

In 1988, Jon Nödtveidt, Ole Öhman, Peter Palmdahl and Mattias Johansson formed a thrash metal band called Siren's Yell. The group has time to record a demo before separating in 1989. Nödveidt and Öhman continue alone (and drunk) playing in a delirium named Rabbit's Carrot. More seriously, Nödveidt increasingly turned to death metal and the most extreme forms of metal and form Dissection in autumn that year. In 1990, Dissection played a first concert with Entombed . The band also recorded its first demo, The Grief Prophecy. It has three titles and illustrations by an artist known as Necrolord, who will sign almost all the artworks of the band. A special edition also released in 1991, it is dedicated to Dead, the singer of Mayhem, who meanwhile committed suicide, and includes his artworks. The Grief Prophecy spread into the extreme microcosm of the time and the French label Corpsegrinder Records allowed Dissection to record a new EP the following year, Into Infinite Obscurity. The line-up consists of bassist Peter Palmdahl, drummer Ole Öhman and guitarist John Zwetsloot in addition to Nodveidt. In 1992, Dissection began recording his first album, The Somberlain . The band moved to Gothenburg in the summer of 1993 and shared studios with At The Gates. Dedicated to Euronymous (Mayhem guitarist ), murdered by Varg Vikernes (Burzum ), The Somberlain allows the group to become better known than it is. And indeed, in 1994, Dissection signed a contract with the famous German label Nuclear Blast, which is then a first for a band of the black metal scene and assimilated. And in 1995, the second album of Storm Of The Light's Bane appeared. Accenting the black / melodic death trend taken by the group, it was followed in 1996 by the EP Where Dead Angels Lie, composed of covers and demo titles. That same year Ole Öhman was replaced by Tobias Kellgren behind the drums. Unfortunately for the band, and the metal world, Jon Nödtveidt was convicted of complicity in the murder of a homosexual in 1997. "Fear the return," he then announced. Anyway, Kellgren and guitarist Johan Norman (who arrived in 1994 to replace John Zwetsloot) founded Soulreaper.

Released in autumn 2004, it appears changed, increasingly imbued with satanistic mysticism. Nödtveidt formed a new line-up with guitarist Sethlans Teitan and drummer Tomas Asklund. He recorded with them an EP of two titles entitled Maha Kali which showed a sudden change in musical direction. Nodveidt talks pompously about Anticosmic Metal Of Death, and accompanies his live performances with curious rituals. The band plays regularly during the Rebirth of Dissection Tour, to the delight of fans (a DVD immortalizing the tour was released this year). Nodveidt even triggers a mini-polemic with Christian Dave Mustaine of Megadeth who gets Dissection not to play at the Metalist Festival in Israel. Finally in 2006, Dissection released its third album, Reinkaos on its own label, associated with The End Records. Especially heavy-thrash, far from the usual sound of the band, it turns out to be a disappointment for many fans. Shortly after its release, the group announced its intention to separate following a mini-tour in particular in the USA. The band played its last concert in Europe in Stockholm in June 2006. At this ocasion, Nodveidt destroyed the Flying V with which he had spent his entire career at Dissection. After this blast, we finally learn Jon Nödtveidt's suicide by gun on 16 August 2006. His death was confirmed by the Swedish distributor of Sound Pollution. The group's statement can also be found at this address: Dissection's official website . At the age of 31, Jon Nodveidt left a wonderful musical legacy with the first two Dissection albums, some side-projects (including The Black and De Infernali), but also the memory of an extreme conduct based on strong satanist convictions. He summarized them as anti-Cosmic principles and referred to a form of Chaos-Gnosticism. He was also sympathetic to the Misanthropic Luciferian Order (MLO). For the record, his brother Emil is a member of the industrial combo metal Deathstars.
