Biography

Down is an allstar band formed in 1992 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He brings together the emblematic figures of the local Sludge and Metal scenes, Phil Anselmo de Pantera (chant), Pepper Keenan de Corrosion Of Conformity (guitar), Kirk Windstein and Todd Strange de Crowbar (respectively guitar and bass), as well as Jimmy Bower d'EyeHateGod (battery). After regrouping demos and releasing a pair of singles, the band worked on its first album. Nola finally came out in 1995 and was a huge success. The hard to cook will then return to their respective groups, then it is radio silence for almost seven years. We take the same ones and start again... almost. Todd Strange had given up his musical career in order to become a carpenter, so it was Rex Brown de Pantera who replaced him at his feet. The five buddies returned in 2002 to Pepper Keenan in Bayou and took only 28 days to compose and record II: A Bustle In Your Hedgerow . The album is received by a colossal welcome of fans, and the notes of the band's few live performances (only thirteen concerts to their credit with Down) literally ripped off. Rumors resurfaced in spring 2006, then it was official: Down resumed service. While a world tour was booked, Over The Under was released in 2007. Diary Of A Mad Band is a dvd that follows the band who on the 2010 European tour and is released at the end of the year. September 2012, Down released Down IV Part I: The Purple EP , Doom Metal-oriented first installment of a series of four EPs retracing the band's influences. During the 2013 Hellfest edition, the group added a second performance to compensate for the cancellation of Clutch. On this occasion the band performed songs rarely played in concert and covers of Eyehategod , Crowbar and Corrosion of Conformity with guests including Jason Newsted (ex- Metallica ), Anselmo's companion singing on the covers of Eyehategod as well as Bobby Landgraf who officially joined the band a few months later to replace Kirk Windstein.
