Downset
Biography
Downset's story. The band began in the late 1980s as Social Justice (beginning in 1987), recording an album (Unity Is Strength in 1989) and an EP (Refusal To Lose), considered one of the first hardcore bands to mix sound with hip hop. In 1992 the group changed its name and took the name of Downset. , during a period of stylistic jolting (explosion of the Grunge, release of the first album of Rage Against The Machine (including Downset. / Social Justice is one of the admitted influences). In 1994 they released their first eponymous album; the pouch already announces the colour, a drawing of a man bent by the American flag, a "Lees" band on his eyes, his hands on his head, a helicopter in the sky); The band then plays what is called "Merge", a heavy metal, groovy rhythms, a hip hop flow and for Downset a big share of hardcore. The band marks its time with a direct album, punching, inspiration for many bands even if commercial success is not at the rendezvous. Two years later the band returned with its biggest success, Do You Speak A Dead Language? , always angry, engaged and always this fusion and inimitable flow. Downset. will play at the Ozzfest 1997 . After leaving their label (Mercury) the band will release its third album in 2000, on Epitath (more accustomed to punk releases), Check Your People. At this time rumors speak of a possible reformation of Rage Against The Machine with Rey Oropeza singing (which will finally be done with Chris Cornell of Soundgarden). Between 2000 and 2004 the changes in line up chamboulé the balance of the band but in 2004 he released a new album called Universal . After 20 years of career the band plans to release a new album (normally announced for 2007).
