Emperor
Biography
In the early 1990s Thomas Haugen (aka Samoth) and Vegard Tveitan (aka Ihsahn) met during a music seminar. They sympathize and from their association are born ephemeral formations such as Dark Device, Xeresia, Embryonic and especially Thou Shalt Suffer. It was not until 1992 that Emperor , first called The Emperors , was born with the first demo The Wrath Of The Tyrant on which Samoth was found on drums, Ihsahn on guitars and voices and Mortiis on bass. later, with the arrival of Faust by Stigma Diabolicum (future Thorns) to the drums, Samoth passed second guitarist for the split Emperor with Enslaved in 1993. Unfortunately for the band, the Norwegian black metal then has dark hours and Emperor does not escape. Bard "Faust" Eithun assassinated a foreign homosexual in Lillehammer in 1992, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison two years later (we find him today in Aborym). As for Samoth, he received 16 months in prison for the destruction (scorched churches). Nevertheless, in 1994, released In The Nightside Eclipse , superb first album, dedicated to the memory of Euronymous, on which TChort officiates at bass before leaving the band. After several changes of line-up, with the passage of Hellhammer of Mayhem in particular, it is Trym Torson party of Enslaved who takes the drums for the continuation of the route of Emperor . And what a journey! In 1997, the fabulous Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk was released, whose musical complexity and quality of production was astonished. Then in 1999, after an experimental split with Thorns, it was IX Equilibrium , which incorporated Death Metal elements into Emperor's Black Symphony , for a haughty and successful marriage. After giving birth to new projects Peccatum and Zyklon-B , the band returned in 2001 with Prometheus : Discipline of Fire and Demise , album concept and last album in continuity , although more technical than the previous one, the band separated shortly afterwards, considering having given everything he could within Emperor . In 2002, Ihsahn was honoured with a cultural prize by the city of Nottoden from which the group originated, as the best known of its inhabitants and for its influence within Emperor and its musical activity as a teacher and among young unknown groups who benefit from its arrangements for their concerts. In 2003, Scattered Ashes : A Decade Of Emperial Wrath , a best of , crowns the career of the legendary band. A reformation in 2005 resulted in a few Dantesque concerts, notably at Wacken 2006, but it is not yet about a new album. We will therefore be content with the brutal death of Zyklon and the epic metal by Ihsahn , which with its album The Adversary , released in 2006, stands out as a worthy heir to his own band.
